7th January 2019.

Dear Parents and Carers,

We hope that you have all had a good Christmas and would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy New Year and to give our new children and their families a very warm welcome.

Last half term we welcomed Mary onto the team. Mary will be working with us until the end of the summer term as a support worker.

Theme:

This half term we will be looking at “Keeping Healthy” with the children exploring exercise, healthy eating and how we grow as well as looking at the role of doctors and dentists. We have a visit from the dental nurse scheduled for the last week of this half term.

Also this half term we will be completing our annual RSPB big school Birdwatch. This gives the children a wonderful opportunity to see the variety of birds on our doorstep here at Christ Church. If you would like to help or get involved in any of these activities then please speak to Teresa.

You can find our plans together with a short paragraph about what the children have been up to at the end of each week on the notice board page of our website. You will see that some items are colour coded – the colours relate to our key worker system and individual activities staff plan for their key children.

If you lose a newsletter don’t worry you can find all the newsletters from the past year on our website together with a calendar with key events marked and also term dates for this academic year.

Our policies are also available on the website together with a large amount of other information.

Healthy Early Years London

We have signed up to the Mayor of London’s scheme Healthy Early Years London and will be working on our Bronze award this term. HEYL supports a healthy start to life across themes that include healthy eating, oral and physical health and early cognitive development.

Lubbock Road Gas Works:

Week commencing 4th February there will be major road works at the bottom end of Lubbock Road for approximately 6 weeks whilst the gas mains are replaced. During this time the road will be closed between Lower Camden and Hatton Court and a diversion will be in place. There is a drop in regarding the work from 10:30 am on Wednesday 16th January in the Link here should you wish to find out more.

Winter Weather:

Should we have heavy snow this term we may need to make a decision as to whether to open. In such circumstances please check the home page of the website where we will post a message to state whether we will be open or closed

Parents’ rota:

On our notice board we have a parent’s rota and you are very welcome to put your name down to help out for a session. However we do suggest that you wait until your child is settled into the routine before you do this.

Parental Questionnaires:

Apologies to those of you who were anticipating this questionnaire last half term – we are aware of how busy the lead up to Christmas can be and decided it would be better to send this out now. We would be very grateful if you would take some time to complete the attached questionnaire and return which will help us in our continuous evaluation of our practice. Please note that we have not attached this for new parents!

Child absences:

If your child is goingto be absent due to a family holiday or even a one day outing then please let us know. Once they are funded London Borough of Bromley stipulates that children are allowed no more than 3 weeks absence due to such events during any one term and for this reason you will need to fill in an absence sheet for any absences due to holiday etc. Should your child be absent for longer than 3 weeks then you will be liable to pay the full fees for the absence.

We are also required to keep a note of absences due to sickness and it is important therefore that you notify us if your child is going to be absent due to being unwell in any way. Many thanks for your co-operation in this matter.

Extended sessions:

These sessions are primarily for children who are off to school in September and run until 2:45pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. As well as learning to manage their lunch the children love exploring outside during the afternoon and towards the summer also get the opportunity to practice such skills as getting changed for P.E. the cost for this session is £10.00 and if you are eligible for extended entitlement funding then you can access 2 hours funding towards the cost of this session. Please speak to Teresa should you wish your child to join these sessions.

Primary School Applications:

The deadline for applications for Primary Schools for 3 and 4 year olds born between 1st September 2014 and 31st August 2015 is Tuesday 15th January and it is imperative that you send your applications in by this date. Please visit www.bromley.gov.uk and click on the link marked “apply for it” on the home page.

Please remember that we are always happy to arrange a time to meet with you to discuss your child’s progress or any concerns you may have.
